The Adjumani LCV Chairman Leku James has taken a swipe at the former district chairman Owole Nixon and his council equating them to a rotten apple and a rotten piece of meat that becomes difficult to preserve.
The chairman unleashed the remark after he was cornered by the enraged councilors during a tense council meeting where unemployment of the youths in Adjumani by the Non Governmental Organizations working among the refugees mainly from South Sudan was a key item on the order paper.
The council members unanimously held that the pattern of recruitment by the NGOs does not favor the local job applicants since job adverts and interviews are conducted from Kampala leaving the locals with narrow chances of succeeding in job interviews.
Reacting to the issue raised by the councilors Chairman Leku accused the former district council headed by Owole Nixon of doing little to alleviate the problem of inequitable job recruitments where the locals were marginalized and bragged of his enormous efforts towards reversing the situation.
Emotional speaking Leku wondered why the youths did not petition the office of the district speaker on marginalizing them in job recruitment during the last council while warning the councilors against politicizing the issue of recruitment.
Kaijuka Richard the the Ofua sub county councilor advised chairman Leku to be courteous and desist from uttering words which are belittling since the last council headed by Owole Nixon was vibrant and performed to the expectations of the electorates.
Kaijuka reminded chairman Leku that he was once a student of Owole and should therefore not make remarks which are demeaning of his mentor while requesting him through the district speaker Idro Dominic that Chairman Leku apologizes for the utterances’ but the speaker down sized the request.

In response Owole Nixon who was not in attendance described the statement of chairman Leku as unfortunate and being disrespectful because if he says he inherited a rotten apple that means he is admitting failures and advised him to confine himself to relevant issues and read the documents that he has left in the office.
Owole said the statement is expected of a leader of Leku’s caliber since he is someone who is foreign, he does not have the formula to the problems of Adjumani having been attracted to Adjumani by elections that is why he resurfaced with ill will and ill intention.
The council resolved that 80% of the NGO jobs be reserved for the locals among other pertinent issues which will be included in a Memorandum of Understanding which Adjumani district local government will sign with all the NGOs.
